Source Molecular Corporation, the nation’s leader in the field of microbial source tracking, has earned its laboratory ISO accreditation from American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) for technical competence in the field of biological testing.
A2LA granted accreditation to Source Molecular’s laboratory in accordance with the recognized International Standard ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standards. This demonstrates that Source Molecular performs the highest standards in its Test Method 3-QPCR for Microbial Source Tracking on water, filters, and DNA samples.
Specifically, Source Molecular’s ISO accreditation covers its detection of Animal Host Associated Gene Markers by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR):
- Human Bacteroidetes ID: Dorei
- Human Bacteroidetes ID: EPA
- Cow Bacteroidetes ID: EPA 1
- Cow Bacteroidetes ID: EPA 2
- Dog Bacteroidetes ID: Target 1
- Ruminant Fecal ID: Target 1
- Beaver Fecal ID
- Pig Bacteroidetes ID
- Bird Fecal ID
- Gull Fecal ID
- Poultry Litter ID
- Goose Bacteroidetes ID: Target 1
Source Molecular performs microbial source tracking (MST) using qPCR technology to analyze environmental water samples for unique genetic markers of fecal sources. Tracking bacteria sources based on DNA markers has been proven to be more effective than relying on fecal indicator bacteria (FIB) data.
ISO Accreditation Comes From Independent Evaluation
As an independent body, A2LA provides an unbiased and objective evaluation of testing laboratories. Source Molecular, which has always worked to give the highest quality and standards, aims to maintain this accreditation.
“A2LA’s recognition affirms our commitment to help improve water quality. The problem of fecal pollution in the water is not limited to our clients but affects everyone in the global community,” Source Molecular’s CEO Mauricio Larenas said. “We’ve put a lot of effort in getting this accreditation. We are happy, not only for ourselves, but for our clients as well since they will have the added assurance that our ISO accreditation brings.”
No other dedicated MST laboratory in the world has an ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation except for Source Molecular.
A2LA performs accreditations based on various internationally-recognized and globally-accepted criteria. Its accreditation decisions are made by their Accreditation Council. The council members are experts with direct experience in the accreditation fields who provide independent and objective judgment.
For more than 15 years, Source Molecular has assisted in hundreds of bacteria source tracking projects across the U.S. and Canada. It has expanded it services to include nutrient source tracking, pathogen detection, quantitative microbiological risk assessment, digital PCR and host fecal score.
